Within three to five days after the baby is
born, many women experience emotional swings; restless, tearful, tired or
depressed then suddenly feel full of energy and talkative. These mood
swings can be related to getting less sleep, physical changes to your body
and caring for a new baby. This can last for a couple of weeks, so it is
important to take care of yourself. Self Care Tips: Try to follow a simple daily routine; shower and dress each day Take time for yourself; go out for a walk, meet other mothers Talk about how you feel with people you are comfortable with. Depression: some women who have a new baby experience postpartum depression. It can start during pregnancy or the first year after delivery. It can happen with any of a woman's pregnancies. Women with postpartum depression may experience: Feelings of sadness, anger and doubt that are getting worse Feel isolated, worthless Sleep problems Anxiety attacks, afraid to be left alone at home with the baby, thoughts of harming themselves or their baby CALL FOR HELP or ask a friend to help you call: You are not alone. There is help for postpartum depression. Call your doctor, midwife, your public health unit or a counseling service in your community. |
